The Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais, has congratulated the Tygerberg Children’s Choir (TCC) on their incredible success at the Hull International Choir Competition, which was held in the United Kingdom from 27 April to 1 May.
The competition saw 27 choirs from across the world performing, with the TCC being the only one from Africa. The TCC ended the competition with two gold diploma’s, placing them as the top children’s choir. This has qualified the TCC to perform at the World Choir Games, which will be held in New Zealand in 2024.
Minister Marais said: “The Western Cape is so proud of this choir for their incredible achievement and for how they have represented the province on an international stage. They are guiding lights for the youth in our country, who have shown how far hard work, determination and passion for your art can take you. We will be supporting them all the way as they prepare to compete in the World Games in 2024. I thank them for bringing hope and joy to the youth of our province.”
The choir, together with conductor Karina Erasmus and accompanist Madri Gerber, returned to Cape Town on 2 May 2023, where they were received and congratulated by representatives of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.
