Minister Marais calls on arts and culture practitioners to apply for funding

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport has opened applications for Arts and Culture funding for the 2022/23 funding cycle.

The Department provides annual funding support to organisations, individuals involved with artistic expression, artist groups and arts and culture event companies. Funding will be provided to organisations or individuals that support and develop the cultural and creative sector by ensuring that:

  • Meaningful programmes are supported
  • Both production and performance are encouraged
  • New entrants are cultivated and mentored
  • Indigenous works are grown
  • All three official languages as well as the indigenous languages of the Western Cape and sign language are promoted
  • Enhance excellence through furthering artistic value
  • Job opportunities and training within the sector is promoted

Minister Anroux Marais encouraged those in this sector to apply for this funding support: “The COVID-19 pandemic has put our artistic and cultural sectors under immense pressure due to restrictions on live performances. I have been encouraged to see how many of our artists and organisations have found innovative ways to continue practicing their art during these difficult times. The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport is committed to providing support to ensure that we can continue growing our arts and culture sector in the province.”
