22 December 2021

The Western Cape Government is saddened at the news of the death of film producer and director Herman Binge late last week.

Known for works such as Johnny is nie dood nie, ’n Song vir Emily, Nobody’s Died Laughing and Pride of Africa, Binge brought stories to life on the big and small screens though his work as producer and director. He worked on numerous television series in addition to full-length films, and added immeasurable value to the South African television and film landscapes.

Minister Anroux Marais said: “Herman Binge was one of the giants of our local arts industry. He touched the lives of many South Africans through the stories he brought to their screens. We are immensely grateful for the contributions he made, as well as for the legacy he leaves behind. We know that many aspiring producers will long carry the lessons they learned from him into their own careers.”

Herman Binge will long be remembered for enriching our viewing experiences. Our condolences go out to his family, friends and colleagues. The work that he leaves behind will continue telling the story of his passion for his craft for many years to come.
