A golden voice has been silenced: We mourn the loss of Theuns Jordaan.

The Western Cape Government is saddened at the news of the death of singer Theuns Jordaan after a brave battle against cancer.

One of South Africa’s bestselling Afrikaans musicians, Jordaan has been winning the hearts of fans for more than 20 years, after the release of his debut album Vreemde Stad in 2000. His distinctive voice and touching lyrics earned him triple platinum status for his debut album.

Minister Anroux Marais said: “Theuns Jordaan was an established voice and presence on the South African music scene, and he often also mentored young aspiring artists, helping them to produce their own albums. He was a true legend, who gave back to the community that supported him and he will be missed for his contribution to our arts and culture sector.”

Our condolences go out to Jordaan’s family, friends and all those in the music sector whose lives were touched by him. His legacy will live on in his lyrics and songs that he gave to us over the years.
