Minister Marais announces Mr Guy Redman as new HOD: Cultural Affairs and Sport

29 June 2021

It gives Minister Anroux Marais great pleasure to announce the appointment of Mr. Guy Redman as the new Head of Department (HOD) for the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport

Mr. Redman joined the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) in March 2017 as Chief Director of Cultural Affairs after heading the Libraries and Heritage Department at the eThekwini Municipality (City of Durban) where he managed a staff complement of more than 600 employees.

A Masters graduate from the University of KwaZulu-Natal which focused on natural heritage, Mr. Redman’s work portfolio is much wider consisting of Libraries, Heritage (Natural and Cultural), Performing Arts, Cultural, Science and Art Museums. He is no stranger to sport and recreation having from his time in eThekwini Municipality to his role as Chief Director Cultural Affairs, worked alongside senior management from sport and recreation portfolios as part of a senior management team.

Minister Marais said, "Since joining the DCAS team in early 2017, Mr. Redman brought a wealth of experience and knowledge to the management and key performance areas of the Cultural Affairs Directorate and achievements of the Department as a whole, while proactively contributing to sustainable solutions to the challenges with which we are faced.

Through his passionate resourceful nature and humble expressions, Mr. Redman has proved to be one who takes decisions on the principles of Batho Pele, ever mindful of those he serves, never compromising the integrity of his role and always foregrounding the dignity and wellbeing of the province and the DCAS team he will now lead".

The Premier of the Western Cape, Alan Winde, said: “I want to congratulate Mr. Redman on his appointment as the Head of Department for Cultural Affairs and Sports and wish him well as he takes the lead and in this new role. I am certain that he will apply his knowledge of heritage and his prior experience within the government, expertly.”

We look forward to working with Mr. Redman in his new official capacity as Head of Department as we together understand our purposive vision and are resolute in our resolve to serve all who call the Western Cape home with hope and gainful opportunities through Sport, Recreation and Cultural Affairs.
