Club Development Mandela Day Celebration

17 July 2011

DCAS in conjunction with the City of Cape Town handed over kit and equipment to clubs within the Atlantis area on Mandela Day, 18 July 2011, at the Robinvale Sports Complex which the City of Cape Town made available for the momentous occasion.

The purpose of the event was to dedicate 67 minutes of our time to help those in need. DCAS took the opportunity to use the significance of 18 July 2011 to handover kit that could be used for training purposes amongst clubs within Atlantis since at previous meetings with clubs within the areas a need for assistance was identified.

The event was attended by 43 participants from the sporting codes inclusive of rugby (Pella RFC, Mamre RFC, Hamlets RFC, Atlantis RFC), cricket (Mamre CC, Atlantis CC), football (Atlantis LFA) and netball (Atlantis Netball).

The opening and welcome was done by Ms. Yvette Tsolo (Principal Facilities Officer Atlantis). Mr. Kent Mkalipi (ASD Facilities) represented DCAS. Ms. Barbara Rass, Ward (32) Councillor spoke on behalf of the clubs receiving equipment and thanked DCAS. It was recommended by ward councillor Barbara Rass that this day should be celebrated every day. The event was closed by the Area manager Mr. Joe Esau (Community Services, Sport, Recreation and Amenities).
