Media Alert: Ministers Meyer and Winde Attend Cape Malay Cooking Course and Tour Bo-Kaap for Heritage Tourism

14 September 2011

On Thursday, 15 September 2011, Western Cape Ministers Dr Ivan Meyer (Cultural Affairs and Sport) and Alan Winde (Economic Development and Tourism) will visit the Bo-Kaap to do a traditional Cape Malay cooking course and go on a walking tour of the Bo-Kaap as part of Heritage Month celebrations.

It is also International Tourism Month, and this year's theme, "Linking Cultures", presents the opportunity to highlight the role of tourism in bringing the cultures of the world together.

Bo-Kaap has a rich cultural, religious and architectural heritage and is a mixed and cosmopolitan neighbourhood with strong links to Muslim traditions and culture.

Situated above the Cape Town CBD, Ministers Meyer and Winde would like to highlight the easily accessible area to tourists in the city centre as walking tours offer valuable insight into the history of Cape Town.

Date: Thursday, 15 September 2011
Time: 10:00
