MEDIA ALERT: MINISTER MARAIS TO CELEBRATE CULTURAL EXPRESSION AND SPORTING ACTIVITY IN SOUTHERN CAPE
This evening, 31 January 2019, Minister Anroux Marais will introduce Premier Helen Zille to deliver the opening address at the annual Dias Festival in Mossel Bay.
On Saturday, 2 February 2018, Minister Marais will then officially hand over two netball court facilities: one to the George Municipality and another to the Mossel Bay Municipality.
Thereafter, Minister Marais and the Executive Mayor of the Mossel Bay Municipality, Alderman Harry Levendal will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Bartolomeu Dias Museum.
The museum was opened on 3 February 1989 as a culmination of the 1988 Dias Festival, which was held to commemorate 500 years after Bartolomeu Dias’ landing in Mossel Bay in 1488. The Portuguese government also donated the life-sized replica of the ship that was used by Dias and his crew members, which is still housed in the Maritime Museum.
The celebration will include the ceremonial cutting of the cake as well as local entertainment.
Minister Marais then travels to Oudtshoorn to deliver the keynote address at the 28th annual Interprovincial Oudtshoorn/Highgate Biathlon (Swimming and Running) Award Ceremony on Saturday.
