11 October 2018

WESTERN CAPE MINISTER OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS AND SPORT, ANROUX MARAIS

WMF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2018 COCKTAIL WELCOME ADDRESS

19 SEPTEMBER 2018

Good evening, goeienaand, molweni nonke

It is indeed a great pleasure to officially welcome all participants to the Majorette-Sport World Federation (MWF) World Majorette Championship, hosted by our very own South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association (SAMCA) to our beautiful Mother City and greater Western Cape.

Recognised by SASCOC as the federation for majorettes and cheerleading, the South African Majorette and Cheerleading Association strives to develop our youth to reach their full potential while promoting group development and competitive spirit in the respective codes.

Hosting the MWF World Majorette Championship from 20-22 September 2018 undoubtedly makes a meaningful contribution to the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport’s mission to encourage excellence and inclusiveness in sport and culture through the effective, efficient and sustainable use of our resources, and through creative partnerships with others. In moving to excellence, we will create the conditions for access and mass participation, talent identification and skills development.

Sporting events such as the MWF World Championship enable a socially inclusive, creative, active and connected Western Cape. It also affords visitors the opportunity to witness first-hand the splendor Cape Town and the greater province has to offer, while maintaining the Western Cape’s status as a sporting destination for all. I thank all who had a hand in the success of this Championship and trust that it will close as the best yet.

I encourage the 1000 competing international athletes hailing from Croatia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, Pakistan, Poland, Kazakhstan, Hungary and of course our Team SA to enjoy the Championship. I hope you will have a memorable experience, make lasting friendships in the spirit of healthy competition.

Remember as Michael Jordan once said, “Talent wines games, but teamwork and intelligence win championships”

I thank you.
