On 22 August 2018, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) visited Roodezandt Senior Secondary School in Saron as part of the Olympic roadshows.
The aim of the roadshows is to combat social ills through sport and education across the province. It also aligns to the International Olympics Committee (IOC’s) global youth strategy to maintain people’s interest in sport, encouraging them to practice sport and promoting the Olympic values.
46 learners from the school got the opportunity to participate in sports such as netball, softball and 7’s rugby. The learners participated in a discussion about bullying in schools and afterwards received branded lunchboxes to instill the Olympic experience in a tangible way.
DCAS will teach Olympic values to various communities by continuing with the roadshows throughout the province. Let us continue to encourage our youth to take part in sport to build a healthier and stronger Western Cape, BETTER TOGETHER.
