Museum Route Website Shows Unlimited Options

4 June 2018

On 1 June 2018, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, through its Museum Service, launched a new mobile-friendly website (http://www.capewinelandsmuseums.co.za) for the Cape Winelands Museum Route at the Earthquake Museum and Tourism Bureau in Tulbagh.

Michael Janse van Rensburg, Deputy Director: Museum Service, said that the website should encourage communities and especially the youth, to become involved in the activities of their local museums. “Options are unlimited if we keep on working together,” he said.

The website was funded by the Board of Trustees of most of the museums in the Cape Winelands, and Chairperson of the Oude Kerk Volksmuseum Board of Trustees Nick Van Huyssteen was present to support the launch. The site gives a sense of the activities and services of the Museums in Ceres, Tulbagh, Paarl, Stellenbosch, Montague, Wellington and Worcester.

Councillor Kobus du Plessis of the Cape Winelands Municipality thanked everyone who worked together to make the new digital platform possible.

DCAS encourages communities and tourists to learn more about the local history at museums in the Western Cape. Let us promote and share the valuable items and activities at our museums, BETTER TOGETHER.
