Western Cape sportspeople honoured by Minister Anroux Marais

WESTERN CAPE SPORTSPEOPLE HONOURED BY MINISTER MARAIS

Yesterday, 6 December 2017, Minister Anroux Marais honoured the 2017 sporting excellence of notable Western Cape athletes in less mainstream codes.

At this very special ceremony, Minister Marais officially acknowledged sportspeople who represented South Africa at international sporting events during the year.

The sportspeople officially recognized include:

  • Team South Africa who competed at the 2017 Homeless Street Soccer World cup in Norway.
  • Vincent Ntuja and the all-girl basketball team for participating in the 2017 Sports Diplomacy program in Washington DC, USA.
  • Francesco Stemmet who competed at the 2017 RC Drift World Championship in Amsterdam.  
  • The all-girl Futsal Team SA for competing at the 2017 Maccabi Games in Israel.
  • Liam Damon for representing South Africa at the 2017 World Karate Championship in Spain.
  • Breyton Poole for winning gold in the code of high jump at the 2017 IAAF U-18 World Champs.
  • Keith Rolls for representing South Africa at the 2017 World Shoot in France.
  • Southern Stings Netball Team for competing in the Brutal Fruit Netball Premier League.
  • Desiree Ellis for winning the COSAFA Cup as both coach and player.
  • Cape Town Roses Football Club for winning the SASOL Ladies League.
