Olympic Hype at Bellville Station

In a joint effort with the National Department of Sport and Recreation, National Department of Arts and Culture, Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport and Brand South Africa, Magnificent Friday was launched this morning in the Western Cape at the Bellville Station.

Team South Africa will once again take part in the Olympics from 27 July to 12 August 2012 and in the Para Olympics from 29 July to 9 August 2012 in London.

The Minister of Sport and Recreation, Mr Fikile Mbalula, the Western Cape Minister for Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr Ivan Meyer, the 2012 Comrades Marathon winner, Mr Ludwick Mamabola as well as Team South Africa Olympic ambassadors were present to spearhead this campaign in our province before it will be rolled out to the other provinces as follows: North West (15 June), Gauteng (20 June), Northern Cape (22 June), Eastern Cape (29 June), Limpopo (6 July), Kwa-Zulu Natal (13 July), Mpumalanga (18 July) and Free State (20 July).

Dr Meyer said that this campaign will play an important role to popularise the love of sport of the people of the Western Cape. He urged the public to encourage and support the athletes that have been selected to represent South Africa at these Games.

As our top sportsmen and women get ready to give their all for our country against the best of the best, it's up to us to show them the spirit and South African soul that will give them the edge. The invitation is open to all South Africans to give Team South Africa a truly South African send-off by wearing South African colours, flying our flag and showing your support!
