Minister Marais Supports Sporting Activities As Part Of Reducing Alcohol Abuse

20 December 2016

On Monday, 19 December 2016 Minister Anroux Marais visited the alternative recreational activities programme, presented by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport in partnership with the Department of Community Safety, at Thembelihle High School in Khayelitsha’s Town 2.

The programme is run as part of the Provincial Government’s Alcohol Harms Reduction (AHR) Game Changer. The AHR is a provincial programme which aims to impact positively on communities in areas where alcohol abuse is prevalent and has a negative impact on the lives of the community.

The Game Changer aims to encourage communities to take up alternative healthy recreational activities so as to drink less and aims to reduce alcohol abuse and the resulting harms caused by it.

The programme, which started on the 17 December 2016, continues until the 10 January 2017 at Thembelihle High School.
