Day Of Sporting Fun At Cape Winelands Better Together Games

19 October 2016

The Better Together Games in the Cape Winelands has become one of the highlights on the Western Cape Government (WCG) calendar, and this year’s event did not disappoint. On 14 October 2016, officials from all of the WCG departments gathered at the Boland Park stadium to enjoy a day of friendly competition hosted by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) in partnership with Nedbank, Old Mutual and Peninsula Beverages.

In addition to WCG employees, staff from the Drakenstein, Overstrand and Breede Valley municipalities were also in attendance, with everybody enthusiastically taking part in various sporting codes including rugby, chess, darts, netball and soccer.

The Games were opened in exciting, energetic fashion with a march-past involving all of the departments and led by the Worcester Community Marching band. Councillor Mei from the Breede Valley Municipality  delivered the official welcome, encouraging participants to enjoy the day.

WCG Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Anroux Marais also welcomed the staff, thanking them for attending and for their participation. “We need sport and culture; it helps us understand and accept each other,” she said.

These events encourage a healthier lifestyle and promote good team spirit. DCAS encourages all staff to take part in such initiatives to achieve a healthier, more active province. BETTER TOGETHER.
