Sport Funding To Promote Continued Sporting Excellence

17 May 2016

As part of the annual Conditional Grant that is made available to the Department from the Divisional Revenue Grant (DORA) for Sport Councils, the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) handed over a cheque to the value of R2 648 250 to the Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation (WCPSC). The cheque handover took place on Monday 16 May 2016 at the DCAS Head Office in Cape Town.

The funding allocation aims to promote greater participation in sport, social inclusion and contributes to a healthier lifestyle, with the focus on sport participation, talent identification and high performance. It will further assist the Confederation in, among other things, advancing the needs of all sports people, both able bodied and disabled; protecting the integrity of youth and school sport; facilitating effective communication between stakeholders; empowering and unifying members with effective and efficient leadership and embracing accountability, transparency and sound corporate governance.

DCAS Minister Anroux Marais thanked WCPSC for their instrumental role in increasing wellness and safety and in tackling social ills. “Involvement in sport and recreation has a positive impact on social development, health, education, human and social capital. With the funds made available to you today, I am sure the Confederation will continue to nurture and develop athletes from grassroots to elite level and these athletes will be able to participate on national and international stages. It will be the very same athletes who will serve as role models and beacons of hope in their communities, which significantly contributes to the overall uplifting of our vulnerable areas,” she said.

Let us continue to support sport in promoting sporting excellence through funding in the Western Cape BETTER TOGETHER.
