Oral History Initiative Launched At Piketberg Library

2 March 2016

Another Oral History Initiative was launched by the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) in partnership with the Bergrivier Municipality on Monday 29 February 2016. This time it was held at the Piketberg Library in Piketberg.

The Oral History Initiative was launched in Hawston in December 2015 and aims to capture and preserve the unique stories of communities within the Western Cape. It also affords local community members, including sports legends, a chance to share their personal stories with each other.

DCAS Minister Anroux Marais called on each citizen in the Western Cape to share their stories at their local participating libraries. “It is time for our world to receive healing, more social inclusion and celebration of our diversity as opposed to it being a dividing factor. Sharing your stories is significantly relevant to making a positive change in our communities. I am encouraging every person to share their stories. We need any story based on true events and the impact it had on you that you feel is significant enough to share,” she said.

Let us continue to keep personal histories and experiences alive in communities so that future generations can celebrate their heritage, BETTER TOGETHER.
