DCAS Mourns the loss of Goliath Munro

4 January 2016

It was with great sadness that we learnt of the passing of Mr. Goliath Munro, President of the Western Cape Provincial Sport Confederation. On behalf of the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Minister Anroux Marais expresses her deepest sympathy and condolences to his wife Muriel, family and the broader sport fraternity.

Minister Marais said, “Mr. Munro made his mark in cross country at primary school level and in administration in athletics at regional, district and national levels. His commitment to good governance in sport and life was well known and respected. As a leader, his advice was sought after and valued. He has been involved in the sport council movement since inception. He has been active at levels of sport administration and served at all levels of administration.

He has been the president of the sport confederation for the last five years. He regularly consulted with all office bearers and I found him to be an astute administrator with a deep love for reason and justice. He also served with distinction on the National Lotteries Board. He will be sorely missed. His dedication  to the betterment of conditions for all sports persons was well known and appreciated. We salute you Goliath Munro. May you rest in peace and be assured that your work will be continued”.

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport also bestowed the honour of Sport Legend on Mr Munro in 2010.
