Rugby Sevens: Minister Marais Welcomes Competing Nations To Western Cape

10 December 2015

Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Anroux Marais welcomes all 16 teams competing in the second round of the World Rugby Sevens Series to Cape Town in the Western Cape. It is the very first time that the international tournament is held in our beautiful Mother City. A heartfelt welcome is extended to the teams from Fiji, England, the United States of America, New Zealand, Australia, Samoa, Argentina, France, Scotland, Kenya, Wales, Canada, Japan, Russia and Portugal.

Sold out on both days, seating 55 000 spectators each day, the World Rugby Series will undoubtedly be a sporting highlight of 2015 for the Western Cape as a whole.

Yesterday, Minister Marais personally wished the South African Blitzbokke well ahead of the tournament. Minister Marais said, “We are extremely proud of our boys. They have won the World Rugby Seven Series in 2009, they can do it again this year. I am rooting for our Blitzbokke and I am looking forward to the world class rugby action to take place this weekend.”

The second round of the World Rugby Sevens Series officially kicks off on Saturday, 12 December 2015 at the Cape Town Stadium.
