DCAS excels at the National Batho Pele Excellence Awards

16 November 2015

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) was recently nominated in two categories in the Annual National Batho Pele Excellence Awards. On Friday, 13 November 2015, the results were announced and DCAS walked away with one gold and one bronze award.

The Awards are co-ordinated by the Department of Public Service Administration (DPSA) and serve to recognise public servants who are selfless, dedicated, committed and who go the extra mile in servicing the citizens. Eligible to public servants across the three spheres of government, the awards seek to entrench the transformation and professionalisation of the public service. They reward excellent service delivery and recognise the contribution by public servants across government in their service delivery improvement initiatives.

Head of Department Brent Walters won the gold award for the Best Head of Provincial Department of the Year and DCAS won bronze in the category of Best Functioning Provincial Department. In the nomination for his category, the HOD was described as “knowledgeable, visionary, professional, motivating, caring and understanding of the core functions of his Department.” The Department was described as follows: “The department sets targets, which they work hard towards achieving over a financial cycle. It seems very consistent with its values of management style”.

These achievements are a highlight to end a year which has seen DCAS receiving a number of awards. The Department also strives to keep delivering at a high level and will continue to aim high in order to achieve all our targets.
