On Tuesday, 16 June 2015, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport hosted a Youth Day event in Grabouw, where learners from the region could showcase their artistic talent.
The event was held in the Gerald Wright Community hall and learners from Grabouw, Kleinmond, Hermanus and Gansbaai could participate and show their various talents. MC Mawonga Gayiya kept the crowd entertained throughout the day and the event ended on a highlight with a singing performance by former Idols winner, Karin Kortje.
Director of Arts and Culture, Jane Moleleki, said that events such as these are very important for the community. “We hope that you will continue to remember the sacrifices made by the youth of the past and to continue to grow your talents in the future.”, she told all the young people in the audience.
Minister Anroux Marais also addressed the crowd and reminded the young people that they are in charge of their destiny: “It is important that you remember that you can dream big, and if you work hard, those dreams will become a reality.”, she said.
The community of Grabouw enjoyed the day’s entertainment and all the groups present were proud to have the opportunity to show their talents on stage.
