Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport Promotes Health and Fitness

3 February 2015

On Saturday, 31 January 2015, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) provided support for the Lion of Africa Half Marathon which took place at the Cape Academy for Mathematics, Science and Technology in Constantia, in conjunction with Western Province Athletics and the Spartan Harriers.

The Lion of Africa event comprised a 21.1 km half marathon as well as a 10 km run/walk. DCAS entered 400 children from the MOD centres and extended an invitation to Western Cape Government employees to participate.

"The participation of the MOD centre children and provincial government employees fosters the concept of an active nation", said Adv. Lyndon Bouah, DCAS Chief Director of Sport and Recreation. “We believe that everyone should have an opportunity to experience the beauty of the Cape".

DCAS offers opportunities for people of the Western Cape to lead an active and healthy lifestyle and encourages communities to use these opportunities. Let us create a fit and active province better together.
