MOD learners entertain the masses

5 November 2014

MOD (Mass participation; Opportunity and access; Development and growth) arts learners from Marvin Park Primary School got a chance to show off their skills at the opening of the Macassar under-12 football tournament held at the Macassar Sports Ground on 1 and 2 November 2014.

The tournament aims to teach learners life skills while exposing them to positive ways of spending their free time through exhibitions from Northlink College, the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport, the Department of Social Development and the Department of Health. “We want to show the people in our community what initiatives the government is offering them so that they can better themselves and their situations,” said tournament organiser, Llewellyn Rhoda.

Hellenic ended the tournament as the eventual winners. Rhoda believes that every team benefited from the event. Anthony Lottering, head of the MOD Arts unit at DCAS, said that it was important for the Marvin Park learners Park to gain experience of performing in front of a large crowd. “It is always a daunting task to have to perform in front of so many people but the learners did very well. This will stand them in good stead for performances in the future,” he said.

The events at Macassar Sports Ground go to show that DCAS has a positive role to play in every community and at every level.
