Western Cape Government Mourns the Death of Tinus Linee

3 November 2014

Media Statement by Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport

I am greatly saddened by the death of Tinus Linee, one of our county’s sporting heroes.

Tinus represented Western Province and the Springboks on the rugby field and has left a great legacy behind. His 112 games for Western Province were a testament to his skill and dedication to the sport. His contribution to transformation in sport cannot be measured.

Our young people need role-models like Tinus to encourage them to participate in sport and show them that they can go far, regardless of where they come from. Tinus also bravely fought Motor Neuron Disease and become an ambassador for finding a cure.

Our thoughts go out to his family, and especially to his wife, Diana, who so tirelessly took care of him over the last few years.
