Celebrating Change at the Provincial Youth Camp

300 born frees gathered in Tulbagh on 5 October at the opening of the 2014 Provincial Youth Camp. The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) and partners are presenting the week long camp in Tulbagh with the aim of bringing positive changes to the lives of the participants. The Youth Camp was officially opened by Chief Director of Sport, Advocate Lyndon Bouah. ‘You now have the potential to fulfill the dreams of the architects of democracy.’ said Bouah at the opening of the Youth Camp.

The participants have taken part in workshops covering topics such as social inclusion and leadership values. Practical activities that reflected the values that the participants have discussed so far were also on offer.  The participants have also taken part in practical activities that highlighted what can be achieved by working together as a team.

Ronald Gabriel said that that the participants of the youth camp should listen to the wisdom and ideas offered to them by the facilitators of the camp. “Use those good ideas to make a change in your life’ he said.

Former Springbok rugby coach Pieter De Villiers attended the camp and treated the participants to a motivational speech. He said that is important to know who you are to be able to be yourself and to know how to make the best choices to make the most of life.  ‘If you become the best you that you can be, then you fulfilled your purpose’ said De Villiers to the participants.

‘I am here to build relationships with others and also to improve my well-being’ said  Tamsin Stevens from the Metro region. She is also looking forward to the activities offered at the camp.

The participants will also be taking part in community service activities and the election of the new Trailblazer team. DCAS presents the youth with the opportunity to attend the camp. We encourage youth to use this opportunity to gain leadership and life skills. We can empower our youth and develop the leaders of tomorrow BETTER TOGETHER.
