The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS), in partnership with the Western Cape Older Person Forum and Age in Action, will host the Provincial Golden Games Event for Senior Citizens from 60 years and Older at Blue Downs Sport Stadium on 30 August 2014. Participants from all 6 Districts in the Western Cape will take part in this event.

Participants will compete in Athletic activities such as 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 500m Brisk Walk and 4x 100m Relay races. Participants will also compete in recreation activities such as duck walk, dress up race, Ball pass and kick, ball relay, goal shooting, ring the stick, jukskei throw, rugby ball throw, pegging washing and soccer.

The district events were very successful, with participants such as Mr Edgar Figland running the 100m in 13 seconds and Mr Kosie September (both in the 60 – 69 age category) running the 800m in 3.03 minutes.

Through these events, DCAS hopes to encourage older people to keep participating in sport to keep them healthy and fit.

Entry to the event is free and supporters are welcome to attend.
