Media Alert: Minister Mbombo to Accompany Minister Mbalula to Manenberg

Tomorrow, 17 July 2014, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, Dr Nomafrench Mbombo, will be accompanying the Minister of Sport and Recreation, Mr Fikile Mbalula and the deputy Minister, Mr Gert Oosthuizen to Manenberg to conduct their 67 minutes of service ahead of Mandela Day.

The Department of Sport and Recreation together with the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) have undertaken to painting the crèche at the Salvation Army and handing over gym equipment to three different schools in the area.

The activities of the day include the following:

  • 07:00 to 11:30 – Painting of the crèche at the Salvation Army. 
  • Coaches' clinics for volleyball, hockey and 5 a-side football. These coaching clinics will be for 500 primary and high school learners from all the regions of Manenberg. Of the 500, 120 will be learners from the school holiday project of School Sport section of the Provincial Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport.
  • There will be an opportunity for the learners to implement the skills that they would have been taught by playing games of Hockey, Volleyball and 5 A-side Football at the Manenberg Greens.
  • The ministers will handover sport equipment to three schools, namely Manenberg High School, Redriver Primary School and Downvile Primary School.

This community outreach event is a joint effort by the two departments to honour Madiba’s 67 years of selfless service to the people of South Africa.
