Media Statement by Nomafrench Mbombo, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport

On behalf of Western Cape Sport and the Department of Cultural Affairs & Sport, I would like to express my condolences to the family and friends of former football icon and legend Isaac “Shakes” Kungwane.

Shakes enjoyed an illustrious sporting career and inspired many to follow in his footsteps. His contribution to sport extended beyond the field when he took up commentary and analysis, and kept millions of viewers entertained.

Kungwane was not only a sporting and television icon but he was role model that both young and old South Africans could emulate. His life exemplified hard work and dedication both on and off the field.

We extend our deep felt condolences to his wife, children and friends during this difficult time.

His memory will always live in our hearts.

We remind South Africa to take a moment to remember his life and his contribution to sport and a sense of national pride.

Lala ngoxolo Shakes.
