Western Cape to honour "Sport Legends"

On Friday, 13 December 2013, Western Cape Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport Dr Ivan Meyer will host a breakfast to acknowledge a number of former and present senior sportsmen and sportswomen for their contribution to the development of sport in the Western Cape and South Africa.

Sportsmen and sportswomen who participated in codes such as fly fishing, life- saving, boxing, athletics, rugby, netball, school sport and athletics will be “capped” as Sport Legends of the Western Cape.

Among those to be honoured is netball administrator Bennie Saayman; Pieter Lourens (school sport); Denver Hendricks (squash); James Sutcliffe (fly fishing); Dr Jantjie Mathinus (athletics); Daniel Tommie Miller (boxing) and Christy Nobel (rugby). See attached list for further details.
