22 November 2013

The best regional sport achievers were crowned at the Boland Sport Awards in Paarl on Thursday, 21 November 2013.

The ceremony was hosted by the Cape Winelands District Municipality, in partnership with the Boland Sport Council and the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS).

This was the third of four regional award events to be hosted across the Western Cape this month. Nineteen proud winners received due recognition for their achievements on the night.

Cape Winelands Executive Mayor Alderman Neels de Bruyn said nominees and winners continue to contribute to the proud sporting history of the region. “Your achievements reflect your passion for sport, which you use to promote social inclusion in our communities. We believe in you and are proud of the role models that you are.”

President of the Boland Sport Council, Pieter Lourens thanked nominees for their contribution to sport and the people of the region. “We honour you for the important role you play in Boland, as well as in the Western Cape.”

Winners were delighted that their commitment and support structures in 2013 bore fruit.

Junior Sportswoman of the Year and golfer Bianca Theron said it felt good to be recognised for her achievements. “This award makes me proud to represent the Boland region, and it has motivated me to improve and build on this success.”

The Metropole Sport Awards ceremony will take place at the Goodwood Civic Centre on Friday, 22 November 2013.
