Department to Honour Metropole Sport Stars

20 November 2013

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) is honouring elite sports people in the Western Cape for outstanding achievements at a number of regional Sports Awards events this month.

Every year since 1996, DCAS has honoured sports people in a variety of categories.

DCAS will host the Metropole Sport Awards in Goodwood on Friday, 22 November 2013. This regional ceremony will be feeding into the main provincial Sport Awards ceremony to be held in March 2014.

The awards are made for recognised competition sport achievements in the period 16 October 2012 to 30 September 2013. Evaluation criteria include the candidate’s participation, performance and achievements at international, continental, national and provincial level.

Selection panels also take into account the nominee’s ranking, the types of competitions he or she has participated in, and whether the nominee is classed as an amateur or a professional.

DCAS is proud to celebrate the significant contributions of passionate and committed sports personalities in the province. The winners from the four regions are selected by a panel of sports experts under the leadership of the Chief Director of Sport and Recreation, Adv. Lyndon Bouah. Nominations are made by provincial sports federations, sport councils, the Department and other interested parties.

Media are invited to attend the Metropole Sport Awards.
