Going Big at Aerobics Session on Casual Day

6 September 2013

The Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) celebrated Casual Day (6 September 2013) this year by hosting an aerobics session for members of the public in the Company’s Garden in Cape Town. The theme for this year’s Casual Day was “Go Big”.

Casual Day stickers were sold at the session, which was aimed at promoting a physically fit Cape Town. The income from stickers sold will be going to organisations dedicated to advancing the rights of and rendering services to persons with disabilities.

Participants enjoyed exercising together on a lovely spring morning. Most were dressed in their usual exercise gear and some joined in the “Go Big” fun by painting their faces and wearing clown masks and wigs.

Mr Edwin Pietersen said this was a good way to have started his day. “I enjoyed myself. This was something different for me as I don’t exercise that much. I needed a change and that’s why I decided to join the session.”

Ms Aletta Smit also enjoyed the session. “I feel in good shape and ready for the day.”

DCAS Gym trainer Ms Olivia Carolisen said the large group of participants enjoyed the public exercise session. “They brought a vibrant atmosphere and some even dressed up for the occasion.”

Carolisen added that, now that spring has arrived, discussions are taking place on whether regular Friday morning public aerobics sessions in the Company’s Garden will take place again this year.
