Appointment of the Western Cape Provincial Cabinet

7 May 2009
Today a new cabinet for the Western Cape Provincial Government will be sworn in by Judge Yvonne Mokgoro of the Constitutional Court.

I have appointed this cabinet in terms of my delegated responsibilities in Section 42 (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa.

I have made my selection of new Members of the Executive Committee (MECs) based on the principle of fitness-for-purpose, in line with the policy that this government applies to all appointments.

Each of the individuals who join me today in the Provincial Cabinet brings special skills and experience with them to their portfolios.

I am confident that we have a strong team and I look forward to working with them in serving the citizens of the Western Cape.
