St Helena Bay Winner of R 50 000 Cash Prize in HIV Testing Campaign Agrees to Release Name Publicly

13 December 2011

After initially declining to make her name publicly known, the winner of the R50 000 cash prize in the "Know Your Status and Win"/"Weet en Wen" HIV testing campaign has agreed after consideration to release her name and limited personal information.

Maureen Janse had her name drawn by Premier Helen Zille earlier this afternoon from among entries of members of the public who tested for HIV during the 16 Days of Activism at specific testing stations.

In a spontaneous SMS to Premier Helen Zille, Ms Janse stated, "Ek het weer gedink dit sal goed wees om my naam beken te maak aan die media om ander mense aan moedig om ook te toets (I thought it would be good to have my name known to the media to encourage others also to test)." Ms Janse lives in St Helena with her partner and is mother to a boy and a girl.
