Premier to Commemorate Mandela Day at Leap Science & Maths Schools Initiative

18 July 2018

Today, 18 July 2018, Premier Helen Zille will commemorate the centenary of the birth of Nelson Mandela when she takes part in the annual LEAP Science & Maths Schools ‘Mandela Day’ programme.

LEAP Science & Maths Schools, in partnership with Canal Walk Shopping Centre, various corporates, community volunteers, along with several public figures including Premier Zille, will build one of the largest mosaics of Madiba using 29 000 food cans.

The food cans will later be distributed to local community organisations working with children and youth across the City, including areas such as Heideveld, Phillipi, Langa and Athlone, among others.

Premier Zille will attend the commemoration and do her part to add to the mosaic.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
