Premier Zille to Visit I-Can Digital Hub

9 July 2018

Tomorrow, 10 July 2018, Premier Helen Zille will be visiting the I-CAN Play digital gaming hub at the Khayelitsha Bandwidth Barn.

The gaming hub is a Western Cape Government initiative and is aligned to the Alcohol Harms Reduction Game Changer.

I-CAN Play aims to establish entrepreneurial driven digital gaming hubs in disadvantaged communities that serve as alternative social and recreational opportunities for young people who are most affected by high risk drinking.

eSports is also growing in South Africa with an increasing number of gamers starting to compete in local tournaments where prize pools have risen substantially.

The hub in Khayelitsha is the first one opened under the I-CAN Play project and will be hosting gaming tournaments in the future.

It is being implemented in partnership with Lenovo and VS Gaming and is being operated by the Cape Innovation and Technology Initiative (CITI).

Premier Zille will be conducting a tour of the hub and will be engaging with staff and young gamers.

There will be an opportunity for photographs and interviews.
