Premier Zille to Unveil Bust Sculpture of Madiba

17 July 2012

This afternoon, Wednesday, 18 July 2012, Premier Helen Zille will unveil a bust of former President Nelson Mandela that was created by celebrated German sculptor, Tom Rucker, in honour of Madiba. Entitled, "Nelson Mandela: Pure Mind - Rare Vision - Eternal Spirit". The art piece is the product of the longstanding bilateral agreement between the Western Cape Government and Bavaria, and is a special tribute, flowing from this successful partnership, to Mr Mandela on his birthday.

Bilateral relations between Bavaria and the Western Cape started in 1995, when the first Protocol was signed between the two regional governments. Since then, the cooperation has developed and expanded to many areas of government and the economy, as well as various community projects, particularly in the context of the Regional Leaders' Forum that meets every two years. The event will be attended by a senior Bavarian delegation.
