Premier Zille to Launch Waste to Energy Plant

24 January 2017

Tomorrow, Wednesday 25 January 2017, Premier Helen Zille will officially launch the Clean Energy Africa Waste to Energy Plant. Premier Zille will be joined by Cape Town Mayor, Patricia de Lille.

New Horizons Energy – a subsidiary of Clean Energy Africa – is the first waste to energy plant of its kind in Africa. The plant will convert everyday household refuse from homes across the City into useful products; biogas, recyclables and refuse-derived fuels, diverting the refuse from landfill.

Green Cape – a Western Cape Government-funded entity – has been supporting New Horizons Energy, to establish the plant. Green Cape is also currently working with municipalities and businesses across the Province on similar initiatives.

This project aligns with the Western Cape Government’s Energy Security Game Changer, focused on leveraging alternative resources to provide energy. South Africa’s energy crisis requires a sustainable, diverse energy-mix. This is critical for ensuring the City and Province’s Energy Security, to the benefit of businesses, job creation and economic growth.

There will be an opportunity for interviews and photographs.

All media are invited to attend.
