Media Alert: Premier to hold Khayelitsha Commission anniversary briefing

Tomorrow, 26 August 2015, Premier Helen Zille will return to Khayelitsha to brief stakeholders on the implementation of the Commission of Inquiry recommendations, one year on.

Today marks the anniversary of the Commission’s Report, which was presented to Premier Zille, Minister Dan Plato and Mayor Patricia De Lille.

Premier Zille – who will be joined by Minister Plato – will brief stakeholders on the outcomes of her meeting yesterday, with the National Police Commissioner, Riah Phiyega’s office. An outline will also be provided on which steps the Western Cape Government has taken to date, to implement the Commission’s recommendations.

Minister Plato will update the community on the key outcomes of the recent Policing Needs and Priorities (PNP) meeting in Khayelitsha, which takes the Commission’s 20 recommendations into account.
