Premier Zille extends condolences on the death of Minister Colins Chabane

15 March 2015

Statement by Helen Zille, Premier of the Western Cape

On behalf of the Western Cape Government I would like to extend my condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of the Minister of Public Service and Administration, Mr Colins Chabane, who passed away earlier today.

I would also like to my send my deepest sympathies to the families of the two bodyguards who also died in the tragic accident.

Minister Chabane was a dedicated minister who served our government with great commitment.  I got to know him well when he was Minister in the Presidency in charge of Performance Management and Evaluation, and I respected the quality of his work and his commitment to fairness and openness.

The tragedy of his death will leave a vacuum in national government that will be hard to fill in his current portfolio.

Our thoughts and prayers are with his family in this difficult time.
