Today, 22 September, Western Cape Premier Helen Zille, and Western Cape Minister of Community Safety, Dan Plato, will hand over a safety kiosk to the community of Khayelitsha in partnership with the Violence Prevention through Urban Upgrade Programme (VPUU).

Safety kiosks are one of the Western Cape Department of Community Safety’s initiatives to increase safety in communities in partnership with Municipalities, City Improvement Districts (CIDs). The kiosks serve as a link between the police station, private security providers, the neighbourhood watch, the CPF and the community in a particular area.

The kiosks also provide an access point to policing as well as other supplementary services such as the certification of documents and taking of statements.

All media are invited to attend. There will be opportunities for interviews and photographs.
