Premier Zille to Host Joint Press Conference on Gang Violence

16 August 2013

On Sunday 18 August, Premier Helen Zille will host a joint press conference with Western Cape Minister of Community Safety Dan Plato, Executive Mayor of Cape Town Patricia de Lille and Cape Town Mayoral Committee member for Safety and Security Jean-Pierre Smith to outline the programmes and interventions of the Western Cape Government and the City of Cape Town within their respective competencies, as well as the interventions the South African Police Service needs to implement in order to address gang violence in the province.

The recent flare-up of gang violence in hotspot areas, which has reached crisis levels in Manenberg, where it is compromising education delivery in the area, is of major concern to the Province and City and requires all three spheres of government to co-operate and intervene in line with their respective competencies as defined in the Constitution.

Date: 18 August 2013
Venue: Room 1-68, first floor, 7 Wale Street (Provincial Legislature and Administration Building)
