Minister Meyer welcomes appointment of Christo van der Rheede

I welcome the announcement by the Board of AgriSA that it has appointed Christo van Rheede as its new Executive Director.

While holding the post of Deputy Executive Director for the past five years, Christo established himself as a respected leader within the Agricultural Sector.

Three words come to mind when I think of Christo van der Rheede: Competent, Committed and Caring.

His passion and commitment to the support and development of both commercial and smallholder farmers resonate well with my key priorities, and I am looking forward to further engage with Christo regarding this.

Agri SA is an established and important voice of agriculture in South Africa and his appointment is a significant development.

In him, we have a friend in agriculture who believes in farmers, farmworkers, producers and all involved in the agriculture value chain.

His appointment comes at a time when the Agricultural Sector is poised to lead the post-COVID-19 recovery of South Africa.

Agriculture will lead the economic recovery in South Africa.

Growing the Western Cape agricultural economy and creating jobs is a crucial priority for the Western Cape Government. 

To achieve this, we need partnership and collaboration with organisations like AgriSA.

Let’s stay safe. Let’s move forward and wish Christo van der Rheede well as he leads and strengthens AgriSA’s focus on the development of policy research, analysis and advocacy within the Agricultural Sector.
