Minister Simmers to handover more houses in Forest Village

16 July 2020

Tomorrow, 17 July 2020, Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Tertuis Simmers will hand over 21 houses, to beneficiaries in Forest Village. These beneficiaries are from the Joe Slovo informal settlement in Langa.

7 Beneficiaries from the Kanana informal settlement that will be moving in today, will also be visited.

Minister Simmers said: “The opportunity to positively change the lives of people in this manner can never be underestimated. We’ve committed to moving over 250 beneficiaries into Forest Village during this period, and we are in the process of executing this commitment. I’m looking forward to handing over these units to our most deserving beneficiaries. These new homes will undoubtedly assist in combatting COVID-19, as it will strengthen social distancing, while also helping to improve hygiene practices.

It is important that our beneficiaries value the asset which they receive. We encourage citizens to draft a will and ensure that they leave a legacy for their children.

The Forest Village Project is a mixed-use development, that caters for beneficiaries of different income levels and specific needs such as Military Veterans, Breaking New Ground (BNG) and Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme (FLISP) units. It is one of my Department’s Catalytic Projects, which commenced in January 2016 and has a budget allocation of R1,1 billion.”
