Residents flock to second Cape metro housing database drive

Over the past two days, 2 371 residents from Belhar, Matroosfontein, Elsies River and neighbouring areas, flocked to the Belhar Minor Hall, Leonsdale Community Centre and Adriaanse Civic Centre, to participate in the second Housing Demand Database (HDD) Drive. The Adriaanse Civic Centre was the only facility to operate on Sunday.

Of this total, 1 098 were new registrations, 942 updated their details, while the balance had general housing queries. This brings the number of people that participated in the first two HDD’s across the Cape Metro, to 7 102.

I cannot thank the community members enough for their participation, patience and diligence over the weekend. It was pleasing to note the turnout and how residents are playing their part in ensuring they register or update their details.

I also salute all Ward - and PR Councillors, City of Cape Town officials, Departmental staff and volunteers for their dedication, commitment and assistance over the weekend. Along with the community’s participation, we have ensured the smooth running of the HDD Drive. Upon taking your seat, the new registration process, takes approximately 10 – 15 minutes, while updates are 5 – 10 minutes long.

As we seek to ensure that the housing waiting lists across the province is accurate and valid, we adopted this radical implementation, innovative and integrated approach with all stakeholders. It is critical for residents to know that we are a caring government.

On 14 March 2020, citizens in Atlantis and Mamre, can participate in the HDD Drive at the Saxonsea, Robinvale - and Mamre Community Centres. I’d like to encourage these communities to also come out in their numbers.

In due course appropriate dates and venues for other areas in the Metro will also be communicated. Residents are reminded to have all the relevant documents when they participate in future drives.
