Minister Tertuis Simmers to conduct public meeting in Noordhoek, Velddrif

Today, 17 October 2019, Minister of Human Settlements, Tertuis Simmers will conduct a public meeting with residents of Noordhoek, Velddrif in the Bergrivier Municipal area.

Pursuant to Minister Simmers’ engagement with the Bergrivier executive Mayor, it was agreed that site visits will be conducted to assess the damage caused during the past few days and to engage the community.

Minister Simmers said: “I’m looking forward to hearing the community’s concerns around housing developments in the area. My visit to the area and engagement with the community today, does not condone or legitimise the illegal events of the past few days. Those responsible for the destruction must face the full might of the law, as we cannot allow lawlessness in our society.

I’m deeply concern that beneficiaries who were to move into the 53 newly constructed homes, will now face further delays, due the criminal actions of a few. As the Western Cape Government, we remain committed to having meaningful engagements with communities, so that we can come up innovative solutions to the various housing challenges faced in the province.”
