Media Alert: Invitation to Cover the Human Settlements Inaugural Housing Indaba

9 November 2011

The Provincial Department of Human Settlements cordially invites members of the press to cover the inaugural Housing Indaba with government, civil society and representatives of the corporate sector. Over 100 civil, corporate and government organisations will be represented. The speaker list on the opening morning will include Western Cape Premier Helen Zille and Western Cape Human Settlements Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela.

Rationale for the Indaba
In efforts to ensure that the Provincial Department of Human Settlements' strategic direction is understood by all, it is envisaged that a platform of engagement is created with all stakeholders in the human settlements delivery chain.

Ultimately, the Department of Human Settlements wants to provide an information sharing and mutual collaboration platform for civil society that will enhance intra-civil society dialogue on topical issues. This will further strengthen collaboration, civil society sector cohesion and unity on issues related to human settlements.

The strategic direction of the department will be communicated to the participants, and participants will be invited to give constructive input into how the department can more effectively deliver on its strategy. The indaba will also close communications gaps between the department and external stakeholders, allowing for the stakeholders to have a better informed understanding of the human settlements delivery process.
