Paarl Residents Get Assistance At Affordable Housing Open Day

The Department together with the Drakenstein Municipality recently hosted an Affordable Housing Open Day to assist residents who wish to access  affordable housing subsidies and programmes from government.

The Open Day was an opportunity for residents to walk-in and engage officials and stakeholders about housing programmes such as  the Finance-linked Individual Subsidy (FLISP), Social Housing and other government programmes.

Representatives from various financial institutions were present on the day to offer a pre-screening service for mortgage finance for interested households.

On the day, residents also received information regarding upcoming projects in the area .

Housing projects currently in progress in the Drakenstein municipal area include.

The Vlakkeland Catalytic Project

  • This housing project has 2 556 houses, of which 397 are earmarked for the GAP or affordable markets where the FLISP subsidy applies).
  • Phase One of this project is currently under construction and includes 755 Breaking New Ground (BNG) houses (for low income households) and 187 GAP houses.
  • Phase Two makes provision for a further 210 affordable housingunits.

The Dal Josafat Project.

  • This project is set to provide  2 078 housing opportunities, of which 1 200 are earmarked for the affordable market The developers were also present on the day to answer the community’s  questions. 
  • More than 700 residents attended on the day to have all their housing queries answered, with many requesting more such sessions.
