Human Settlements Joins 100 Homes For 100 Families Nelson Mandela Day Initiative

23 July 2018

In honour of Mandela Day, 18 July 2018, Western Cape Human Settlements Minister, Bonginkosi Madikizela, and the Head of Department of Human Settlements, Mr Thando Mguli joined forces with the NGO, Habitat for Humanity SA to build 100 homes for 100 families across Cape Town; Gauteng and Kwazulu Natal.

This year various stakeholders gathered in Mfuleni to participate in the Nelson Mandela Day Team Build Week: 16 – 20 July 2018 to commemorate the day Madiba would have turned 100. Amongst the partners on the day were sporting teams namely the Cape Cobras; Cape Town City and DHL Stormers.

Minister Madikizela emphasized the importance of Mandela Day and expressed the Department’s excitement to be part of Habitat for Humanity’s Mandela Day initiative. He also praised all the partners who collectively came together to build the homes.

It was Nelson Mandela’s dream to eradicate poverty. Building the country, he dreamed of is only possible if we come together and raise our hearts, hands and voices to build strength, stability and self-reliance to assist the most vulnerable citizens.
