Minister Madikizela Delivers Title Deeds to Delft Residents

16 August 2017

On Tuesday, 15 August 2017, Delft residents braved the cold when they met with the Western Cape Human Settlements Minister, Bonginkosi Madikizela, to receive their title deeds.

Twenty-three pensioners between the ages of 60 and 71 were among the 50 recipients who took ownership of their homes. The handover is part of the Department’s strategic goal to prioritise the elderly with housing opportunities.

Minister Madikizela emphasised the importance of the day and encouraged residents to look after their title deeds and their homes. “This title deed means you are now a property owner. This home is yours for generations and you must take care of it.”

Minister thanked the homeowners for their patience, as some have been waiting for many years to own their homes. “Government is spending money developing areas like Delft. We want to make sure that when we prioritise people for housing opportunities, it’s those people who have been waiting for years.”

The new homeowners expressed their elation. Benedict Kabab (68) thanked the Department. “Thank you Minister Madikizela and the Department for making this day possible. I have been waiting for 27 years to receive this document and with God’s graces it has happened.”

Another beneficiary; Leonard Lehane (63;) also expressed his happiness. “I have been waiting 25 years for this moment and I am glad that this day has finally come. This means a lot to me and my family”

Another resident, 51-year-old, Esme Smith, said she feels blessed and very excited now that she is a homeowner.

To date, the Provincial Department of Human Settlements has delivered over 6000 title deeds in Delft since the inception of the Enhanced Extended Discount Benefit Scheme (EEDBS).
